Donald Trump has vowed to prosecute Google if he is re-elected as the President of the USA for showing only “bad stories” on him while “good” ones for his rival Kamala Harris. Google responded to the claim saying that both the candidates appear in the search results at the top for relevant queries.
“It has been determined that Google has illegally used a system of only revealing and displaying bad stories about Donald J.Trump, some made up for this purpose while, at the same time, only revealing good stories about Comrade Kamala Harris,” the Republican presidential candidate said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social.
He called upon the US justice department alleging ‘illegal activity’ by Google for interfering in the elections.
“This is an ILLEGAL ACTIVITY, and hopefully the Justice Department will criminally prosecute them for this blatant Interference of Elections. If not, and subject to the Laws of our Country, I will request their prosecution, at the maximum levels, when I win the Election, and become President of the United States!” he said.
Trump, however, did not share any evidence of his claim.
Responding to the claim, the search engine told AFP, “Both campaign websites consistently appear at the top of Search for relevant and common search queries.”
“This report looked at a single rare search term on a single day a few weeks ago, and even for that search, both candidates’ websites ranked in the top results on Google,” it added.
Google has consistently maintained that it does not alter search results to benefit any particular political candidate. The company keeps the details of its search engine’s underlying algorithms confidential.
Trump faces accusations including sexual abuse, paying hush money to a porn star, interfering with the 2020 election and trying to thwart the peaceful transition of power after President Joe Biden defeated him. These allegations span a wide range of serious charges that could have significant consequences for the former president in the search results.
