Chhattisgarh: Six out of 7 women killed in limestone mine collapse in Maalgaon village of Bastar | Raipur News


JAGDALPUR: Seven people, including six women, were killed after part of a limestone mine collapsed on them in their village in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh on Friday, police quoted by PTI said.

The incident took place in Maalgaon village below Nagarnar Police Station area, about 12 km from Jagdalpur, the district headquarters, a police official said.
“The victims were digging the ground in the mine when part of it collapsed, causing them to be trapped under the debris,” he said.
Soon after being alerted, police personnel rushed to the scene and started the rescue operation, he said.

While five people died instantly, two more died while being transferred to hospital, he said.
According to initial information, only seven people were digging the ground but rescue efforts are still underway, he added.
