Kyiv: Russian shelling killed at least six people and burned down buildings in the city of Kurakhove Wednesday in eastern Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy chief of Zelenskyy’s office, pushed up the death toll. He said eight people were killed and five injured in the attack, in which a market, a bus station, petrol stations and residential buildings were fired upon.
“The Terrorists attacked the peaceful town of Kurakhove, Zelenskiy wrote on the Telegram messaging app under video footage of burning buildings. “Terrorists are inhumane. And they will be held accountable.”
Kurakhove is in the Donetsk region, which has seen some of the heaviest fighting since Russia sent troops to Ukraine on February 24. Russia denies deliberately attacking civilians, but towns across Ukraine have been bludgeoned by Russian forces.
