Lobbyists Eliminated From Budget Drafting Process: Finance Minister Sitharaman | News from India

NEW DELHI: Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday he said that the preparation of the financial statements under the Government of Narendra Modi is done after an exhaustive exercise of consultations with stakeholdersand that power brokers or lobbyists they are no longer entertained, unlike before.
“It can be said that there is no enthusiasm for the budget proposals as they have been drafted after a long process of consultation with interested parties. There is no room for anyone to be disappointed. Prime Minister Modi has implemented a transparent policy-making system and as a result, the influencers or intermediaries in the corridors of power have disappeared,” FM said in an interview with India TV.
He says the opposition is used to expressing disappointment and again there is nothing new in his speeches.
When asked about Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s remarks as ‘useless’ and ‘directionless’ Budget, Sitharaman said that Budget is a serious document not to create enthusiasm but to meet people’s needs and address their problems. “Leaders should learn from the common man and express opinions after completing the tasks,” she said.
Regarding Congress official P. Chidambaram’s remark that the FM did not mention the poor even once in his speech, Sitharaman said, “What if the Congress leaders mention it 100 times? Could they alleviate poverty? This is the habit of Congress that they talk about rights but deliver zeros. On the other hand, Prime Minister Modi’s leadership believes in delivery down to the last mile.”
