At least one person has reportedly been killed after a shooting at Michigan State University, with a search underway for a masked gunman.

Campus police said there were “multiple injuries reported” and described the suspect as “a short male in a mask, possibly black.”

It is believed to be on foot.

A Michigan State University spokeswoman confirmed to The Detroit News that there had been one casualty.

Students were urged to “take cover in place” and in a subsequent tweet police said there had been “another reported shooting”, adding: “There are more injuries reported”.

The victims are taken to the Sparrow hospital.

Lisa McClain, U.S. Representative for Michigan, tweeted: “There are reports of an active shooting on the Michigan State University campus.

“If you’re there, police instructions are to run, hide, fight. I’m praying for all Spartans right now.”
