After the murder he married another woman on Feb. 10,” said Yadav.
Nikki’s cell phone was found in Sahil’s possession, police said.
Police said Nikki learned Sahil’s engagement had been set for Feb. 9 and her wedding was the following day. She kept insisting that she cancel the wedding. At around 11:00 pm on 9 February, Sahil reached Bindapur and the couple then left the house in her car. Investigating officials said the pair reached the Kashmere Gate area of north Delhi shortly after midnight.
“He had taken her out on the pretext that they were going to a hill station in Himachal Pradesh and that the news of his marriage was not true. Nikki was not convinced and kept wanting to know the truth. They had a heated argument and Sahil he then strangled her using his mobile data cable. He then drove the car while Nikki lay motionless wearing her seat belt in the passenger seat and drove straight to her dhaba in Mitraon village,” an official told investigation knowledge.
Upon reaching the dhaba, Sahil stuffed her body into a blue-colored single-door refrigerator and locked it using cables. “Because it was her wedding, the dhaba was closed for the next two days,” the official added.
Gehlot, a resident of Mitraon village, told police he got ready after school SSC exams in a coaching center in Uttam Nagar in January 2018. Nikki, a resident of Jhajjar was preparing for her medical entry and was enrolled in another institute in Uttam Nagar. The two would travel on the same bus and their friendship blossomed from there. Soon the two fell in love.
In February 2018, Sahil accepted admission into a college in Greater Noida and Nikki followed suit, enrolling in the BA (English Honors) course. Later, the two began living together in Greater Noida in a rented house. They traveled together to different places like Manali, Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun. When Covid hit, they returned to each other’s homes and started living together in a rented house in the Dwarka area post-lockdown.
Sahil did not inform his family members about his affair. Later his family pressured him to get married and fixed his marriage.
Police said they recovered the woman’s body from the refrigerator and the data cable from her car. “A case of murder and destruction of evidence has been registered at Baba Haridas Nagar Police Station. The version disclosed by the accused is being verified during the investigation,” added Yadav.
