NEW DELHI: Defending champions Gujarat Titans will face four-time champions Chennai Super Kings in the opener of the IPL 2023 in Ahmedabad, the BCCI announced on Friday as it unveiled the schedule for the upcoming season.
The 16th edition of the tournament will kick off from 31 March and the last league match will be played on 21 May.
All 10 teams will play 7 home and 7 away matches during the league stage of the tournament.
A total of 70 league matches will be played and will include 18 braces, the board has announced. League matches will be played over 52 days at 12 venues.
The summit clash will be played on May 28 with the schedule and venues for the playoffs and final to be announced at a later date.
Evening games will begin at 7:30pm IST while afternoon games on Doubles Day will begin at 3:30pm IST.
The Punjab Kings will face the Kolkata Knight Riders in the afternoon match at Mohali, while the Lucknow Super Giants will join the Delhi Capitals in the evening match on April 1, which will be the first double-header day of the season.
Sunday’s (April 2) evening blockbuster will be between heavyweight Royal Challengers Bangalore and five-time champions Mumbai Indians.
The first three days of the actual tournament will see all 10 teams in action.
“The Rajasthan Royals will play the first two home games in Guwahati before playing the rest of the home games in Jaipur. The Punjab Kings will play the five home games in Mohali and then play the last two home games in Dharamshala against Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals respectively “, the council said in a statement.
The finals match of the championship will be played between RCB and GT at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on 21st May.
