Actor Tom Sizemore is in critical condition after suffering a brain aneurysm.

The 61-year-old suffered the aneurysm around 2 a.m. Saturday while at his home in Los Angeles, his manager Charles Lago said.

The actor is in intensive care in hospital, with Mr. Lago describing the situation as “wait and see”.

Sizemore is best known for his roles as a sergeant opposite Tom Hanks in the 1998 World War II epic Saving Private Ryan, and as the commander of an Army Ranger battalion in the 2001 film Black Hawk Down.

He also appeared in the 1995 drama Heat, and was nominated for a 2000 Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Made for TV Movie for his role in Witness Protection.

Sizemore struggled with drug addiction throughout his acting career, being arrested several times for driving under the influence and drug possession.

In 2003, he was convicted of domestic violence against his girlfriend Heidi Fleiss and three years later pleaded no contest to methamphetamine use outside a motel.

He was arrested in 2009 and 2011 on suspected battery by an ex-spouse.
