Congress: Congress Considers 75% Membership Fee for “Young” Social Groups | News from India

NEW DELHI: Congress can reserve 75% of party committee members and posts, including the apex CW extensionfor various social groups and “young people”, in what can completely renew the social profile of the organization, with a prevalence of members under the age of 50.
Building on the resolution adopted at Udaipur’s ‘Chintan Shivir’ which declared that “50% of Congress officials (in the future) will be under 50”, the party is now considering a combination of age-related quotas and those for the social groups already in force in the congress appointments.
The option is being examined by the “AICC Constitution Amendment Committee” chaired by Ambika Soni, and the final formula will be included in the party statute at the next plenary session in Raipur.
According to the constitution of the AICC, the composition of committees at all levels should mandatorily be 33% women and 20% SC/ST/OBC/minorities.
The sources said after Raipurthe provisions could undergo a radical change, with strict implementation in the future.
The amendment under discussion is that 50% of seats should be reserved for SC/ST/BOC/minorities/women, of which 25% should be reserved for members under the age of 50. The remaining 50% of positions for “general or open category” should have 25% of members under the age of 50. While it will fulfill Udaipur’s resolution to have half of officials under 50, popularly known in congressional circles as the ’50 under 50′, it will bring the total quotas – social, gender and age – to 75%. Employees over the age of 50 belonging to the general category, excluding women, will only be eligible for up to 25% of party positions.
