‘Prime Minister Modi sent troops to LAC, not Rahul Gandhi’: Jaishankar strikes at Congress | News from India

NEW DELHL: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday he lashed out at Congress for repeatedly questioning the Center about border skirmishes with China, saying ‘it was Narendra Modi and not Rahul Gandhi who sent troops to LAC extension.”
In an exclusive interview with ANI, Jaishankar said India has sent troops to the LAC in large numbers amid border tensions with China, amid Congressional accusations that the Center is not doing enough to counter the threat .
On Congress’s allegation that neither Prime Minister Modi nor Jaishankar ever mentioned China in their statements, the foreign affairs minister said India currently has the largest peacetime deployment in history along the Chinese border . He then uttered the word “China”.
“If we were accommodating, then who sent the Indian Army to the LAC? Rahul Gandhi didn’t send them, Narendra Modi sent them,” Jaishankar said.
His response comes amid a flurry of attacks from Congress, particularly Rahul Gandhi, over the Center’s response to Chinese aggression.
Rahul had said the government must deal with China firmly and make it clear that “we will not tolerate them sitting on our land”.
The congressional leader had also said that China is preparing for “a war” and accused the Center of trying to “ignore” the threat.
However, Jaishankar has also repeatedly rebutted the Congress’s allegations.
Lashing out at Congress, the union minister previously said some people are deliberately spreading wrong news about the China issue knowing it is not true for politics. “Speaking of a land, which was taken from China in 1962, they give the impression that it happened recently,” he said.
