NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court agreed on Thursday to hear the appeal of the Indian Olympic Association (IAO) challenging the Delhi High Court direction for the constitution of a group of three members Trustees Committee (CoA) to take over the business of the sports body.
A bench headed by Chief Justice N. V. Ramana took note of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta’s comments that the appointment of the CoA could result in the suspension of the Association by the International Olympic Committee, as happened in the case of the Indian Football Federation (AIFF) recently.
The bench agreed to hear the IOA’s appeal the day after completing the hearing of the listed issues.
The Delhi High Court had on August 16 ordered the establishment of a three-member CoA to manage the affairs of the IOA.
The high court said the IOA’s “persistent reluctance” to comply with the sports code made it imperative that his cases be assigned to the CoA made up of former Supreme Court Justice Anil R Dave, former Election Commissioner SY Quraishi and former External Affairs Secretary Vikas Swarup.
