Indian discus thrower Navjeet Kaur Dhillon and Russian walker Aleksandr Ivanov were banned for using banned substances, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said on Friday.
Data from a Moscow laboratory provided by a whistleblower showed that one of Ivanov’s samples contained substances believed to be hormonal and metabolic modulators.
The 29-year-old was told by the IAU in May this year of the results but did not respond. Since he did not provide an explanation within the time limit, it was considered an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
Ivanov was therefore granted an “additional period of suspension of two years” from the date of the decision.
He had already served a two-year ban for doping and was stripped of his gold medal at the 2013 world championships in Moscow, losing medals won between July 2012 and August 2014.
Another walker, Igor Yerokhin, was also found guilty of violating anti-doping rules. The 36-year-old is already serving a lifetime ban.
Dhillon, the 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, had tested positive for a metabolite of the anabolic steroid Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone (DHCMT).
Dhillon, 27, told AIU earlier this month that she had used a supplement which she did not know contained the banned substance.
The standard ban is four years and, although Dhillon did not provide proof of unknowing use of the banned substance, her ban was reduced by one year because she admitted the ADRV and accepted Punishment.
The IAU added that all decisions could be appealed.
