Asia Cup 2022, India vs Pakistan: Punjab leaders back Arshdeep Singh trolled for dropping a catch | Cricket News


CHANDIGARH: Several Punjab leaders including MP Rajya Sabha Harbhajan Singh, a former cricketer, showed their support for the fast bowler on Monday Arshdeep Singh who is facing brutal social media trolls for losing a hold during an India-Pakistan game in Dubai.
Pakistan won the Super 4 Asia Cup encounter on Sunday by five wickets.

Deputy of the PAA Raghav Chadhaformer Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and BJP leader Manjinder Sirsa also supported the 23-year-old fast bowler.
Former cricketer and Aam Aadmi Party MP Harbhajan Singh criticized those who said “cheap things” about Arshdeep.
“Stop criticizing young @arshdeepsinghh,” he tweeted. “No one drops the jack on purpose.. we are proud of our boys.”

Chadha also said the kind of hate Arshdeep was appalling.
“Let’s leave some slack for this young man. Arshdeep is an incredible talent and will be leading the Indian bowling attack for years to come. No amount of hate can bring him down,” Chadha said in his tweet.

Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer has said Arshdeep is the future of the nation.
“Win or lose is given in the game. @arshdeepsinghh is an upcoming star who has carved a niche for himself in a short time. Great performance against Pakistan. Regressive psyche to troll him on a single take. Arshdeep is the Future of Nation. Inspiration for young people. Hate has no place in sport,” Hayer said in his tweet.

He spoke to Arshdeep’s mother Baljit Kaur on the phone and told him that Punjab and the whole country were with him.
Former CM Amarinder Singh said it was unfortunate that Arshdeep was mocked for dropping the hold.
“Such things (dropping a hold) happen in sport, especially under such enormous pressure. We must support and encourage our sporting heroes. Arshdeep, don’t be disappointed. You have a long and glorious career ahead of you” , he said in a Facebook post.

BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa also criticized those who targeted Arshdeep and called him “Khalistani”.
“Arshdeep Singh is a brilliant player. He played very well and everyone is supporting him,” he said in a video message.

In a tweet, he said: “India comes before Cricket. I reject Pak propaganda and support Arshdeep Singh.”
