‘Canadian extremists from Khalistan’ deface Toronto’s Swaminarayan Temple; India raises issue with Canada


TORONTO: A prominent Hindu temple has been defaced by ‘Canadian Khalistan extremists’ with anti-Indian graffiti in an apparent hate crime, prompting the Indian mission here to condemn the incident and urge authorities to take swift action against the authors. The time of the incident at BAPS Swaminarayan MandirToronto is not yet known.
India’s High Commission tweeted on Wednesday, “We strongly condemn the defacement of BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir Toronto with anti-Indian graffiti. We have called on the Canadian authorities to investigate the incident and take prompt action against the authors.”
Chandra Arya, member of ParliamentCanada tweeted: “The vandalism of Toronto’s BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir by Canadian Khalistan extremists should be condemned by all. This is not just an isolated event. legitimately concerned.
Meanwhile, Brampton South MP Sonia Sidhu expressed shock at the incident and tweeted: “I’m devastated by the act of vandalism that took place at the #BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto.”
“We live in a multi-cultural, multi-faith community where everyone deserves to feel safe. Those responsible must be located to face the consequences of their actions,” she tweeted.
BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha is a volunteer-driven spiritual faith dedicated to the betterment of society through individual growth by promoting Hindu ideals of faith, unity and selfless service.
