Inform Francesco Bagnaia set lap record to lead locked-out Ducati to first in Aragon Grand Prix qualify at Alcaniz on Saturday as title rival Aleix Espargaro and Fabio Quartararo finished second.
Italian Bagnaia, winner of the last four races, clocked 1:46.069 to snatch pole 0.090 seconds from factory Ducati teammate Jack Miller and Gresini Racing’s Enea Bastianini completed the front row.
Aprilia’s Espargaro finished fourth ahead of Pramac Ducati rider Johann Zarco as championship leader Quartararo took sixth with his final lap.
Six-time MotoGP champion Honda rider Marc Marquez finished 13th on his return to racing after recovering from surgery and missing the last six rounds of the championship.
Suzuki rider Joan Mir has retired from the GP of Aragon weekend after the end of the third training session earlier on Saturday due to an ankle injury. The 2020 world champion will also be absent from the Japanese GP next weekend at Motegi.
