On Saturday, two members of the Sterilgarda Husqvarna Max team were filmed appearing to deliberately obstruct Adrian Fernandez’s bike as he tried to leave the Tech3 KTM garage during the second part of qualifying for the Moto3 Grand Prix of Aragon.
MotoGP announced later Saturday that the two mechanics had been fined €2,000 (2003.23 USD) and suspended for two races for “interfering with and contacting another team’s motorcycle and rider in a manner aggressive and dangerous.
The suspension has been postponed to later races because banning mechanics for the next two races, in Japan and Thailand, MotoGP said, would make it impossible to replace the pair due to immigration and travel restrictions.
Team boss, former Superbike world champion Max Biaggi, has suggested the two mechanics will both be punished beyond what has already been handed down by MotoGP.
“An unsolicited and dangerous action that can in no way be justified by our code of ethics! Those responsible will be punished appropriately.”
Fernandez’s qualifying standings suffered, meaning he started from 15th on the grid for Sunday’s race. He eventually finished 12th.
