It is duty of cricketers to promote other sports: Kapil Dev | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev has said it is the duty of every cricketer to promote and support other sports “because other players spend the same time as cricketers”.
“It feels good. In this country everyone has a feeling that one cricketer gets everything. So it is the duty of every cricketer like us to promote other sports too because other players spend the same time as cricketers, but if you can’t live off Golf so it’s discouraging. So, I think if we can bring more money to this and through our sponsors, if such people come to us, we think next-gen players can make a name for themselves,” Kapil Dev told ANI.
Each player has a passion so I want more and more children to play. There should be an infrastructure for them, he added.
Talking about the infrastructure provided by other sports, Kapil Dev said: “The most important thing is that we should focus on our infrastructure. If a youngster has a chance, then only he can become a player. I don’t want not say that cricket did the best but they gave good infrastructure to every player that is why cricket excelled I would like to say that as ITMP should invest money there to create small training grounds where kids can show their talent, because it’s not that only elites can play this sport. Everyone can play and the more middle-class people play, the more it generates a new level of energy.”
The legendary Indian cricketer said youngsters should have the passion to achieve their goals and they must prove to the world that they have the talent.
“My only message to young people is that the passion has to be there to achieve something. You have to play but there has to be a purpose behind me wanting to achieve something. You have to prove to yourself and to the world that you have the talent and they can show it. Have fun and if you can make a career out of it, why not,” he added.
Indian cricketing legend Kapil Dev announced on Monday the launch of a new annual golf tournament, in association with the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) – the official sanctioning body for men’s professional golf in India. The tournament is called the Kapil Dev – Grant Thornton Invitational, presented by LDFwhere professionals will play alongside amateurs, companies and famous golfers.
The tournament taking place September 27-30, 2022 will be the first ever full PGTI event to take place at the Gary Player Course at DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram. The Gary Player course, considered one of the most spectacular and challenging courses in the world, should test the skills of all professionals and amateurs.
