Michael Halpern paid tribute to the iconic childhood figure, Barbie, with her Spring / Summer 2023 collection at London Fashion Week. In capturing the teenage spirit, Halpern partnered with Mattel for the LFW SS23 show and the collection celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Barbie Dreamhouse. And the looks? Well, they are bright but elegant, nostalgic but present. The designs were inspired by the palettes and motifs inherent in the Barbie Dreamhouse. These include Barbie’s classic chevron pattern, polka dots, and sunset palette. He used these recognizable Barbie motifs to bring the Barbie Dreamhouse to life with glamorous floor-length silhouettes. The opening look honored the late Queen Elizabeth II, with a stunning cornflower silk taffeta cape, paired with a mint veil, inspired by a gown her Majesty wore to the Opera. In one of the striking designs in the collection, the model can be seen draped from head to toe in a vibrant blue fabric. The other look is centered around specific palettes and textures, being predominantly built with leopard print and velvet.
