At least 23 killed in Russian missile launch in Ukraine

ZAPORIZHZHIA: At least 23 people were killed and 28 injured in a Russian missile strike that hit a convoy of vehicles carrying civilians near the town of Zaporizhiasaid the regional governor.
A Reuters witness saw about 12 bodies, including four in cars, and said a missile left a crater in the ground near two rows of vehicles at a car market.
“So far, 23 dead and 28 injured. All civilians”, Oleksandr Starukhthe regional governor of Zaporizhzhia, wrote on the Telegram messaging app.
The impact threw chunks of dirt through the air and sprayed vehicles with shrapnel. The windows of vehicles – mainly cars and three vans – were blown out.
The vehicles were filled with the occupants’ personal effects, blankets and suitcases. A body leaned from the driver’s seat into the passenger seat of a yellow car, its left hand still gripping the steering wheel.
Russia, which invaded Ukraine on February 24 in what it calls a special military operation, denies deliberately targeting civilians despite its attacks devastating Ukrainian towns.
