A British grandmother has died and her grandson was injured after tumbling down a cliff in Benidorm.
The 58-year-old woman was driving a scooter-like electric vehicle when the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon, according to Spanish media.
Spanish newspaper El Periodico reported that the woman ran over the edge of the cliff in the Serra Gelada natural park and that her eight-year-old grandson was also injured.
It is unclear why the vehicle left the road before falling off the cliff, in a hard-to-reach area, the outlet reported.
Seeing her going down the slope, her companion – on a similar vehicle – tried to join her and injured herself in the effort.
The police opened an investigation to clarify the causes of the accident and whether the vehicle complied with all requirements.
A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: ‘We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in Spain and are in contact with local authorities.
