PANAJI: Indian footballers go far. After Manisha Kalyan joined Apollon Ladies FC in Cyprus and Dangmei Grace joined FC Nasaf in Uzbekistan, two other Indian footballers — Soumya Guguloth and Jyoti Chouhan – arrived abroad, this time signing one-year contracts with ZNK Dinamo Zagrebthe women’s team of Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb.
“I’m happy (with the signings),” said head coach Marija Damjanovic.
Soumya, 21, and Jyoti, 23, were among about a dozen players who took part in the Women In Sports elite trials held in Kolkata in June. The players were evaluated by coaches from five international clubs. The Croatian giants were the first to offer them an extended trial where they were tried and tested alongside the country’s top talent.

“The weather was tough at the start but we were still confident to get there,” said Soumya, currently with the national team camp in Pune, preparing for the SAFF Women’s Championship.
“It’s a dream come true for me, personally. It’s always been my dream to follow in the footsteps of my idol Bala Devi (who played for Rangers in Scotland). She’s an inspiration.
Soumya, a winger, was quick in Croatia, picking up big points in the fitness tests.
