NEW DELHI: general Manoj Pande Wednesday congratulated the indian armyathletes who participated in the Commonwealth Games in the United Kingdom from July 28 to August 8.
The Indian Army sportsmen performed extremely well at this year’s Games winning four gold, one silver and three bronze medals, according to a statement.
“It is indeed a commendable achievement that out of 18 Indian Army participants in the Commonwealth Games team, eight sportsmen have won medals for India,” the army said.

These medals are the result of a carefully planned and supported “Olympic Mission Programme”, designed and implemented by the Indian Army since 2001, he noted.
Upon the team’s return to India, General Pande and senior army headquarters officers congratulated and interacted with the sportsmen at an exclusive reception held at the Delhi cantonment on Wednesday, he said.
“Speaking to athletes, army chief recognized their outstanding performance and remarked that the participants from the Indian Army are true role models for the nation. COAS (Chief of Army Staff) said that their individual performances made the Indian Army and the entire nation proud,” he noted.
