Harry Styles dealt with the rumors he spat about co-star Chris Pine at the Venice premiere of their latest film Don’t Worry Darling.
The British pop star – who is up for grabs for a Mercury Prize tonight – told fans during his concert at Madison Square Garden in New York on Wednesday night: “I just went very quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine … but fear not, we’re back.”
The joke went well with fans responding with screams.
There has been a lot of speculation that some of the cast members of the psychological thriller didn’t get along.
However, internet chatter reached new heights on Tuesday after a clip was shown Styles taking a seat next to co-star Chris Pine at the Venice Film Festival premiere of Don’t Worry Darling – directed by Olivia Wildethat Styles is dating now – it went viral.
Twitter users wondered if it showed the 28-year-old A direction star spitting into Pine’s lap before sitting down next to him, with Pine seemingly confused and then laughing to himself.
However, Variety’s chief co-editor shared this clip, which showed Styles entering from a different angle.
With the initial video seen by millions of people, Styles’ sources have claimed the story isn’t true.
A rep from Pine, 42, also denied the incident occurred.
“People are seeing some strange illusion online that is clearly deceptive … there is nothing but respect between these two men,” said the representative at the US branch of Sky News E! News.
“This is a completely made-up exchange,” added the rep, “and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create a drama that simply doesn’t exist.”
