Ivana Trump, the first wife of former US President Donald Trump, has died at the age of 73.

Ivana and Donald Trump married in 1977 and had three children together: Donald Jr, Ivanka and Eric.

Trump announced the death of his ex-wife on his social media platform Truth Social.

She wrote: “I am very saddened to inform everyone who loved her, of whom there are many, that Ivana Trump died in her New York City home.

“She was a wonderful, beautiful and extraordinary woman who led a fantastic and inspiring life.

“Her pride and joy were her three children, Donald Jr, Ivanka and Eric. She was so proud of them, how we were all so proud of her.

“Rest in peace, Ivana!”

Love and business partners – with the roles she played as manager of one of her Atlantic City casinos – Ivana and Donald Trump were the staples of the New York see-and-be-seen scene before their equally cluttered audience. divorce in 1992 after Mr. Trump met his next wife, Marla Maples.

During the separation, Ms. Trump accused him of rape in an affidavit in the early 1990s. She later told her that she didn’t mean it literally, but rather that she felt violated.

But in recent years she had been on good terms with her ex-husband.

Ivana told the New York Post in 2016 that she was both a supporter and an advisor to the former president.

“I suggest a few things,” he told the newspaper. “We talk before and after the apparitions and he asks me what I thought”.

He said he had once advised him to “be calmer”.

But he added, “Donald can’t be calm. He’s very blunt. He just says it the way it is.”

‘I am the first lady’

In 2017, while promoting a book, he told the Good Morning America TV show that he spoke to the then president every two weeks and had his White House direct number, but he didn’t want to call too often “because Melania is there and I don’t. “I don’t want to cause any kind of jealousy or anything like that because I’m basically Trump’s first wife, okay?” He said with a laugh.

“I’m the first lady, okay?”

Melania Trump’s spokesperson at the time responded, saying that “there was clearly no substance in this claim from an ex, sadly this is just a noise of attention seeking and selfishness.”

Ivana was born Ivana Zelnickova in 1949 in the Czech town of Gottwaldov, the former city of Zlin which had just been renamed by the Communists, who conquered the country in 1948.

After divorcing Mr. Trump went on to become a full-fledged entrepreneur, starting a fashion line and writing various books.

She got married and divorced her third and fourth husbands and even made a movie cameo as America’s most famous ex-wife in The First Wives Club, where she had the immortal phrase “don’t get mad, take it all!”

I missed you a lot

The Trump family released a statement, calling her “an incredible woman: a strength in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty and a caring mother and friend.”

The statement went on to say, “Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled communism and embraced this country.

“She taught her children grit and tenacity, compassion and determination. She will miss her mother, her three children and ten grandchildren very much.”

Ivanka Trump, her daughter, tweeted: “Heartbroken by my mother’s death. Mom was bright, charming, passionate and wickedly funny. She lived life to the fullest, never giving up the opportunity to laugh and dance.

“I will miss him forever and will always keep his memory alive in our hearts.”
