A comeback at 35-plus was a real challenge: Dinesh Karthik | Cricket News

CHENNAI: Dinesh Karthik’s career chart has been on the rise since joining Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier this year. A superb performance with the bat — 330 runs in 16 outings — for the franchise was instrumental in Karthik’s return to India’s T20 team. Returning to the national team after almost three years, Karthik has shown himself well and will be in action in the next T20 series against the West Indies.
Amid the many comebacks he has made to the Indian team in the past, Karthik admitted that the last one was the toughest. “Coming back when you’re over 35 has never been easy. I thank everyone who helped me during this phase. I quietly believed in myself and did the hard work before the IPL , and I’m glad things worked out well,โ€ Karthik said at the launch of Evocus (black alkaline water) here on Friday.
Playing the role of finisher for RCB gave him the confidence to replicate the same for Team India as well. “The fact that I have done so well for RCB has helped me realize a few important things. It’s a journey and I’m really enjoying it. Every new day there’s a different challenge. Some challenges you overcome, and some challenges are more difficult, so it’s been interesting so far,โ€ Karthik pointed out.
Whether at bat or behind the mic, Karthik seems to excel in every role he plays. The 37-year-old feels having a clear role has brought out the best in him. “Whether it’s for the state (Tamil Nadu), the IPL or the national side — if your role is clearly defined, it becomes relatively easier to prepare and focus. You have to adapt and thrive , and I really enjoy the challenge,โ€ said Karthik.
The Indian team tops the ICC T20 rankings and Karthik is confident the team will do well at the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. “With the kind of talent we have, I’m confident that India will do very well in the World Cup,” said Karthik, who is set to feature for Tiruppur Tamizhans in their next TNPL clash against Kovai Kings in Coimbatore on Saturday.
