After years of hard work and passion, Achinata will finally be seen competing in the 73kg category at the Commonwealth Games later this month. From the age of 10, Achinta bodybuilding journey started with his brother who he used to go to the gym with at a young age. Initially it was just baithak (a modified squat) and don (a modified pushup), with the facelift coming a bit later.
Due to a troubled family background with his father working as a laborer, the discipline in Achinta to succeed one day was at its highest and this is what brought him to this stage after all the years. After the death of their father in 2013, his brother Alok had to give up the dream of doing weightlifting himself while their mother took up the profession of seamstress so that the daily needs of the family would be met. However, after all the hardships, Achinta was still focused on his dream and silently working to achieve it.
“Everyone is focused on the phone these days. You have to have a purpose in life,” Achinta told the Sports Authority of India, highlighting the core values ​​he has harnessed over the years of his career. training.
“Many like to go to the gym to impress girls. I wanted to fight because my home background was not too good. I knew I had to face a lot of challenges and so, I tried to improve myself little little by little,” he continued.
With a no-nonsense attitude mindset, Achinta competed in her first national weightlifting championships in 2013 in Guwahati and finished fourth. Youth Games Gold Medalist Khelo India 2018 won the coveted yellow metal on the grand stage at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, Apia, Samoa in July 2019 in the junior and senior categories.
Riding the momentum of the victory, Achinta continued and set six national records, including three in the senior group, en route to a silver medal in the men’s 73kg category at the World Junior Championships in Tashkent. last year. Also in Tashkent, he became the 73kg champion at the Commonwealth Championships later last year.
Achinta is part of the 12-member Indian weightlifting contingent set to make its mark in Birmingham. Achinta, which is part of the Target Olympic Podium program, and will make sure this opportunity matters to Commonwealth Games 2022. All of India will be cheering on the young star as his passion, discipline and desire are showcased later this month.
