CHENNAI: Three masked men He withdrew on Saturday with gold and cash worth Rs 15 crore from the branch of the non-bank finance company Fedbank in Arumbakkam in Chennai after gagging and tying up two staff members and a security guard.
Police suspect a former Fedbank employee’s role in the robbery. Fedbank is a branch of the Federal Bank.
The company’s branch manager, Suresh, was in his room when three masked men cornered and tied him up. The robbers snatched his locker key and collected all the cash and gold and put them in a bag before escaping on a two-wheeler.
Some residents saw the guard and staff tied up in the office and alerted the police.
Staff from the Arumbakkam police station intervened on the spot. Additional Police Commissioner TS Anbu, Joint Police Commissioner S Rajeswari, Anna Nagar Deputy Police Commissioner C Vijaykumar and other senior police officers visited the place.
Forensic officials collected fingerprints from the office.
Police have formed special teams to track down suspects with the help of CCTV footage and the vehicle’s license plate number.
