Gunman opens fire at Jerusalem bus stop, killing three and injuring seven | world news

A gunman opened fire at a bus stop in Jerusalem’s Old City, killing three people and injuring seven.

It happened early Sunday as the group of Israelis waited in a parking lot near the Western Wall, considered the holiest site for Jews to pray.

According to The Times of Israel, the gunman waited for the bus to arrive and fired the shots as the passengers boarded, before fleeing on foot.

The police were conducting a massive manhunt throughout the city.

The incident comes after a tense week between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Three days of uninterrupted fighting erupted in Gaza after Israel killed Islamic Jihad commanders there, and after three Palestinian activists in the occupied West Bank were also killed.

At least 49 people have been killed in Gaza and 300 others injured.

Israel reported no deaths or serious injuries.

Many feared the latest violence could lead to the fifth full-scale war in Gaza since the militant group Hamas took control of local government in 2007, but a tentative peace followed until Sunday’s shooting.
