Nikhat Zareen gifts PM Narendra Modi boxing gloves, Hima Das gives traditional gamcha | Commonwealth Games 2022 News

NEW DELHI: Indian athletes expressed joy at being honored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their outstanding performance at birmingham Commonwealth Games with Nikhat Zareen offering him his boxing gloves and his sprinter Hima Das giving the traditional Assamese gamcha.
Modi on Saturday welcomed the Indian contingent to his residence to congratulate the players.

Indian athletes produced a sensational spectacle in Birmingham, winning 61 medals, including 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze.
“Happy to present boxing gloves signed by all pugilists to our honorable Prime Minister @narendramodi sir. Thank you for this amazing opportunity. Great day spent with my fellow athletes who made the country proud,” Nikhat tweeted.

The star boxer, a gold medalist at the world championships, won the yellow metal in her weight class at the Games.
Hima wrote on his Twitter account, “Delighted to receive the blessings of our Honorable Prime Minister – Shri @narendramodi Ji, in virtue of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Glad to have presented our traditional gamcha to him, wrapped in immense gratitude from the from all of Assam.”

champion weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who won the gold medal without a sweat, a year after his historic silver medal at the Tokyo Olympicsthanked the PM for his words of encouragement.

Sir. Thank you very much sir for all your support and encouragement. Jai Hind,” Chanu said.

The golden era of Indian sports is knocking at the door, said the Prime Minister while hailing the beautiful spectacle of the Indian contingent.

His young badminton colleague Lakshya Senwho won the men’s singles title in spectacular fashion, also expressed his gratitude for being honored by the Prime Minister.
“What a great day for all #gratitude athletes. Thank you so much Sir for appreciating our hard work and for your words of encouragement. We are all very grateful for your support. We will continue to make our nation proud. Jai Hind!” Sen tweeted.

Indian para-table tennis player Bhavina Patelwho won gold in the women’s singles 3-5 category, called the interaction with Modi motivating.
“Meeting Honorable PM @narendramodi ji once again, interacting with him and asking for blessing was motivating and inspiring as always. His keen interest in our performances and detailed conversations are very gratifying!” Bhavina said.

After the congratulatory programme, the Prime Minister said that “CWG 2022 will be remembered for its memorable performance and the diversification of our pursuit of excellence”.
