The collapse of the stage of the Spanish music festival kills 1 person, dozens injured

Part of a temporary concert stage collapsed due to strong winds on Saturday at an outdoor music festival in eastern Spain, killing one person and injuring dozens, regional authorities said.

Emergency services for the Valencia region said a “strong gust of wind” caused parts of the Medusa Festival stage structure to fall around 4:00 local time. About 40 people had to be transported to hospital, including three with serious injuries.

“We are completely devastated and saddened by what happened this morning,” the organizers said on the festival’s Facebook page.

The Medusa Festival is a six-day electronic music festival in Cullera, Spain.

Music festival organizers said in a statement that they ordered the clearing of the concert grounds when the wind intensified.

Videos posted on social media show strong winds as large crowds of festival attendees have been evacuated.

“This is a terrible incident that astounded us all,” Valencia regional president Ximo Puig wrote on Twitter.
