Rishi Sunak visits the temple with his wife to celebrate Janmashtami

NEW DELHI: Candidate for the post of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Thursday visited a temple to “celebrate” Janmashtami. The 42-year-old former chancellor was accompanied by his wife Akshata Murthy.
Sharing a photo on Twitter, he wrote, “Today I visited Bhaktivedanta Mansion Temple with my wife Akshata to celebrate Janmashtami, ahead of the popular Hindu festival celebrating Lord Krishna’s birthday.”

Sunak met Murthy while studying MBA at Stanford University, married in a two-day ceremony in Bangalore in 2006. They have two daughters, Krishna, 11, and Anoushka, 9 .
Sunak’s family moved out of the flat above No 10 Downing Street – the official residence used by the Chancellor of the Exchequer – in April following controversy over Sunak’s non-domiciled legal tax status. Murty, who she later dumped to pay tax on her income from Infosys shares also in the UK to prevent the issue from becoming a “distraction” for her husband. Now, as the candidate for the top job, the former finance minister has said the family will return to Downing Street if he is elected as Conservative party leader and next Prime Minister to succeed Boris Johnson on September 5.
Meanwhile, a new survey on Thursday confirmed a 32-point lead by the Foreign Secretary Liz Truss over former Chancellor Rishi Sunak in the Conservative Party leadership race, but also showed a strong preference among Tory members for incumbent Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
