A British mother’s life is believed to be in danger after she was struck by lightning on a beach in Croatia.
Split police said they were called at 3.15pm on Saturday after a person was apparently hit.
“An investigation will be conducted at the scene and the full circumstances of this accident are being determined,” the officers added.
“His life is in danger.”
The woman, believed to be a 48-year-old British national, was sunbathing with her daughter when a thunderstorm swept across the sea, MailOnline reported.
The victim, who has not been identified, reportedly lost consciousness as she and her daughter tried to reach a nearby hotel.
She is now said to be in critical condition in intensive care.
An official at the Marjenski Dir triathlon told MailOnline: “The woman was hit near the beach and luckily for her one of our doctors on call who was attending the event managed to revive her.
“He was very close to dealing with a bicycle accident that had just happened and when he heard the screams he rushed to help the woman and he stabilized her until the arrival of the ambulance.”
A Foreign Office spokesperson said: ‘We are supporting the family of a British national in Croatia and are in contact with the local authorities.
