UP CM Yogi Adityanath expressed sorrow for his death and also prayed for the peace of the deceased soul.
Police said the accident occurred on the NH-28 Khajhaula highway under the Munderwa police station area of the district.
Police club officer, Rudhauli, Ambika Ram, told TOI that prima facie it emerged that the victim, along with his wife Veena Singh, was going in an SUV to Lucknow from Gorakhpur.
“The vehicle was driven by Santosh Gupta and he allegedly lost control before hitting a tree. The impact was such that the vehicle was reduced to a pulp,” Ram said.
Hearing the noise of the accident, locals rushed to the scene and also informed the police, the officer said.
Police said all three passengers in the SUV were pulled out of the mangled SUV and taken to a nearby hospital where Motilal was pronounced dead while Santosh received primary care and let go. Reference was made to Veena Singh BRD Medical University Gorakhpur and its conditions are critical.
Police also claimed that Motilal Singh retired from his post as an additional municipal officer in the Municipal Corporation, later serving in Gorakhnath Temple.
Motilal was later appointed to the prime minister’s camp office and facilitated janta darshan.
