Hiker Falls 200 Feet to His Death at Grand Canyon | News from the United States

A man fell about 200 feet to death while hiking in the Grand Canyon, the United States National Park Service (NPS) said.

The 44-year-old was off-piste when he fell off the west edge of the Bright Angel Point trail, located on the park’s North Rim, the NPS said.

Grand Canyon National Park rangers who responded to the incident found her body about 200 feet below the rim.

The NPS has encouraged visitors to Grand Canyon National Park to stay safe by staying on designated trails and at least six feet from the edge of the rim.

They also encouraged hikers not to “run, jump or perform physical stunts near the edge”.

A press release from the park continued: “In areas where there is a railing or fence, do not step over the barrier.

“Keep an eye on everyone in your group, especially small children. Make sure your fellow travelers have both feet planted firmly on the sidewalk or developed paths.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and is being conducted by the NPS and the Coconino County Coroner’s Office.

The hiker has not yet been named.

The Grand Canyon National Park, which is located within Arizona, covers 1,218,375 acres of land and contains 278 miles of river. It has 450 bird species and 91 mammal species.

About six million people visit the park every year.
