Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan calls for greater ‘opportunities’ | Cricket News

DUBAI: Afghan rotation magician Rashid Khan On Monday, he said he had won playing in global leagues but the country’s up-and-coming talent needed more exposure to top-flight opponents.
The Mohammad Nabi-led side crushed Sri Lanka in the Asian Twenty20 Cup opener and then faced Bangladesh in Sharjah on Tuesday.
Rashid remains the brightest star in a galaxy of talented players many of whom have seen dark days in the war-torn country, which saw another Taliban takeover last year.
Despite the odds, the unique minnows have made their presence felt among cricket’s elite since their 2018 Test debut in India.
Rashid, 23, who played a key role in the team’s magical rise alongside Nabi and former captain Asghar Afghan, says they still need more space in the schedule cricket with the best teams.
“We haven’t played a lot of international cricket, especially the longer format. It’s just a matter of FTP (future tour schedule), it’s not in the hands of the players,” Rashid told reporters. journalists on the eve of their second Asian Cup game.
“We want to play a lot of international cricket, which gives opportunities to young people. They should have the kind of environment where they can promote their cricket and their skills.”
Afghanistan are expected to play 53 ODIs, 71 T20Is and 22 Tests between April 2022 and May 2027, but most of them against lower ranked sides like Ireland and Zimbabwe.
Rashid, a leg-spinning champion who plies his trade in various short-format leagues including the IPL and the Hundred, ran 112 wickets in 67 T20 internationals.
“Playing in all international leagues is something that gives us the kind of opportunity where we can learn from the best players,” Rashid said.
“That’s where we learn and we bring that experience to the national level and share it with the team. The more players that travel the world and play in the leagues, I think that’s what helps us. , especially in the hitting department.”
Always known as the Giant Slayers, Afghanistan’s stock rose dramatically in the Asian Cup after hammering Sri Lanka by eight wickets on Saturday when they beat their opponents for a measly 105 and then eliminated the runs in just 10.1 overs.
“We prepared well and played a good game against Sri Lanka but it’s gone,” Rashid said.
“We think about taking one game at a time and giving our 100%. It doesn’t matter if the other team takes us lightly or not, we work hard and train well.
“For us, every opposition is the most difficult opposition. Tomorrow, if we play in Hong Kong, we will have the same preparation as when we face India.”
