Production of the Apple TV + Lady in the Lake series was halted after producers said they were threatened with violence if they didn’t pay $ 50,000 (£ 43,000).

The Baltimore Police Department confirmed to NBC News that a group of locals contacted producers who were working on a shoot on Park Avenue in the city center around 4:00 pm Friday.

They threatened to return in the evening to shoot someone if production didn’t stop.

The producers were told to pay the sum to the group before filming could continue.

The staff decided to “err on the side of caution” and stop production.

They decided to reschedule the shooting and look for another location after receiving the message, the police department said.

“On Friday afternoon, on the Baltimore set of our ‘Lady in the Lake’ production, before the cast and crew arrived, during call time, a driver from our crew confronted two men, one of them. he was brandishing a gun aimed at our driver, and then they fled the place, ”the producer of the Endeavor Content series said in a statement.

“We are working with the Baltimore Police Department while the investigation is ongoing. The safety and security of our crew, cast and everyone working on our productions are our top priority and we are grateful that no one was injured. .

“Production will resume with increased security measures in the future.”

The series, which began shooting in April, stars Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram.
