Asia Cup 2022: Arshdeep Singh’s parents say fans want the team to win, taking comments in a ‘positive way’ | Cricket News

MOHALI: After India’s five-wicket loss to Pakistan in the ongoing 2022 Asian Cup, the pacer’s parents Arshdeep Singh offered words of support and encouragement to their son and the entire Indian team and added that the family takes all comments on the internet in a “positive way”.
The 23-year-old Indian pacer is under pressure after losing an important hold in Pakistan’s 18th round against India in the Super Four stage clash as the former chased 182 runs. Singh had dropped Asif Ali, who took full advantage of the lifeline given to him as Pakistan knocked out pacemaker Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 19 runs in the next inning. Arshdeep Singh won the final to defend seven points, but was unsuccessful.

Arshdeep became the target of vicious online trolling after dropping the crucial catch. The word “India” was changed to “Khalistan” on Singh’s Wikipedia page by an anonymous user even as another editor quickly reversed those changes. According to reports, some handles in Pakistan have also become active.
Arshdeep’s father, Darshan Singh, said the family was watching the game. “Everyone wants their team to win. When that doesn’t happen, the fans take their anger out on the players through their words. We take it all positively. The match was pretty cool,” Darshan told ANI.

Darshan said he spoke to Arshdeep and is currently unaffected by the comments on the internet and is instead looking ahead to the next game against Sri Lanka, focusing on the positives and negatives of the previous match. .

Pacer’s mother Daljeet Kaur also said that although the match against Pakistan was lost, it is normal for mistakes to happen.
“People’s job is to speak up. If they criticize a player, they do it because they like him and want him to do good. We take it (internet comments) positively. We were praying that Arshdeep stops those two runs. Missed catches are part of the game. But he made it up in the next run.”

Arshdeep’s parents hope India and Pakistan will meet for the third time in the final and India will walk away with the trophy for the eighth time. They urged fans to remain patient and support Team India.
Notably, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology took note of the edited Wikipedia page linking cricketer Arshdeep Singh to Khalistan and MeitY is expected to take action on Wikipedia, sources said.
The Ministry of Electronics and Technology said on Monday that “no middleman operating in India can allow this kind of misinformation” after cricketer Arshdeep Singh’s Wikipedia page was edited by an unregistered user, the linking to the Khalistani separatist movement.
“No middleman operating in India can allow this type of misinformation and deliberate efforts to incite and harm users – violates our government’s expectations of a safe and trusted internet,” tweeted Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MoS Electronics and Technology.

Photos have been shared on social media, stating that “he has been named in Khalistan’s squad for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup”. The edit history of the Arshdeep Wikipedia page revealed that the user who made these edits was unregistered and was using the Internet Protocol (IP) address 39.41.171.125.
The user also changed his name to “Major Arshdeep Singh Langra” and a minute later to “Major Arshdeep Singh Bajwa”. Many random changes have been made to Singh’s in-game stats.
Address assignment records showed that the particular address was assigned to Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).
The Indian cricket fraternity also lent their support to the young point guard who lost a crucial hold in the 18th minute of the game.
Indian striker Virat Kohli had strong words in his support and said: “Even when I played my first game against Pakistan in Champions Trophy, I played a bad shot and went out. Everyone can make mistakes under pressure. It’s natural to feel bad. The environment in the team is great at the moment, credit goes to the management and the captain. So accept your mistake, fix it and hope find yourself in that pressure situation again,” Kohli said in a post-match press conference on Sunday.
He was backed by former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, who said no one deliberately lets go of their catches and the young designer should not be criticized. “Stop criticizing young @arshdeepsinghh. . Pakistan played better… shame on those people putting our own guys down by saying cheap things on this platform about Arsh and the team… Arsh is GOLD “, tweeted Harbhajan.

Coming to the match, batted first by Pakistan, India went 181/7 in their 20 overs. Chasing 182, Pakistan crossed the finish line with a ball to spare and with a margin of five wickets.
