NSWS will boost the automotive sector by bringing together 32 ministries under one portal: Anurag Jain

The Indian government recently launched the National Single Window Scheme (NSWS) portal where companies can digitally identify and apply for licenses or approvals in one place rather than visiting different government departments separately. The portal currently hosts applications for 24 central departments and 16 state governments.
Speaking at the 62nd Annual SIAM conventionAnurag Jain, Secretary of the Department for the Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Government of India said: “Currently, our plan is to involve 32 central ministries under the NSWS program. . We already have 24 departments working with us and by December 2022 it is likely that the remaining 9 ministries will also begin to participate. The NSWS scheme will offer automotive industry stakeholders a simple and streamlined platform from which to acquire their licenses and authorizations. This will promote business development, research and development and innovation. ”

How does it work?
Businesses can map the exact approvals they need from different ministries using the Know Your Approval tab on the website, after which they can request a number of licenses or approvals with a single business ID. Once their single application has been submitted, companies will also be able to monitor the status of their approval and obtain it through the portal. This makes the process of interacting with ministries convenient and getting approvals seamless.
Jain further said NSWS is in line with the government’s Vision India 47, to create a solid plan for the automotive sector to become one of the top two auto-producing countries in the world over the next 25 years. The Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry predicts that the Indian economy will be worth an optimistic $ 32 trillion by 2047 and the auto sector could be worth $ 7 trillion of that amount.

Commenting on the digital nature of the NSWS solution, Jain also told stakeholders that as the country and industry advance, the dependency between automotive industry and the IT industry is set to grow. “We have already seen how the IT industry influences the automotive industry with the shortage of semiconductors. Likewise, the automotive industry affects IT in terms of logistics and costs ”. As the industry is already moving towards connected cars, stakeholders need to upgrade their R&D and innovation to stay relevant and survive.
