Pakistani PM calls Imran a ‘fraudster’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday called former Pakistani Prime Minister and leader Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan the “biggest fraudster and liar” in the country’s history.
“I can swear to God that he (Imran) is a cheat, lying day and night. He had isolated the nation and played with it. He tried to create divisions in important institutions in Pakistan,” sheriff said to a presser in Islamabad.
Flanked by cabinet colleagues, the Pakistani prime minister said he wanted to present Imran’s “true face” to the nation. Sharif began his presser by recounting incidents surrounding the no confidence motion against Imran as PM in April.
“Let’s go back to April 3 when the vice-president of the National Assembly allowed the former Minister of Information (Fawad Chaudhry) to speak before voting. He (Chaudhry) read a statement mentioning that a plot had been hatched against the PTI government and called it a “foreign plot”.
“On this point, the vice president refused to allow the vote,” Sharif recalled, adding that Imran appeared on television soon after to announce the dissolution of the National Assembly.
Amazingly, Sharif added, the dissolution was cleared by the Pakistani president within 20 minutes.
“It was the basis of the conspiracy that Imran has been playing with for five months and wasting the nation’s time. On the floor of the House, I said that if God forbid, this conspiracy was proven against me or the coalition government, the nation has the right to hang me,” the prime minister said.
In recent audio leaks featuring a voice purportedly that of Imran, Sharif said the recordings revealed the truth of his predecessor.
The prime minister said a “cipher” – which Imran said contains details of the foreign plot to oust him from power – could not be decoded by the government. “If that were the case, the cables of all the embassies could be leaked or stolen,” he explained.
Sharif reiterated that the PM’s copy of the “cipher” – also known as the master copy – was missing. “Imran himself does not know where he is. But his audio leaks proved there were four people behind the so-called conspiracy. What other evidence do you need? asked Sharif.
Sharif promised to probe the leaks. “An investigation has already begun. We will tell the nation the results in full transparency.
