Schoolgirls shout at the Iranian president to “get lost” as he condemns the protests


Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was greeted with chants of “getting lost” by female students while visiting a university and condemned the protests resulting from the death of a young woman while in custody for not wearing the veil correctly.

A video posted on Twitter from the website of activist 1500tasvir showed what were said to be female students singing “Raisi si perdono” and “The mullahs are lost” while the president visited their campus. Another video on social media showed students chanting: “We don’t want a corrupt guest,” in reference to Raisi.

Raisi addressed professors and students from Tehran’s Alzahra University, reciting a poem identifying “rioters” with flies, while nationwide demonstrations entered week four in response to the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini last month. while in police custody.

The protests erupted on September 17, after the burial of Amini, a Kurdish woman who died in the custody of the feared Iranian police of morality. Amini was arrested for allegedly violating strict Islamic dress codes for women. Since then, the protests have spread across the country and have been met with fierce crackdowns, in which dozens of people are estimated to have been killed and hundreds have been arrested.

Two people were reportedly killed as protests continued across the country on Saturday.

The United States said last month that it will sanction Iranian security officials in response to Amini’s death.

“In response to this and other human rights violations in Iran, including the violent crackdown on peaceful protests, the United States is imposing sanctions on the Iranian moral police and senior security officials who have committed serious human rights violations, under Executive Order 13553, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.
