A doctor shared a bizarre video of her removing 23 contact lenses from a patient’s eye.
Doctor Katerina Kurteeva posted the clip Instagram of her teasing lenses from under a woman’s eyelid.
The video went viral and has now garnered more than a million views.
According to the ophthalmologist’s post, the patient inserted a new set of lenses for 23 consecutive days without ever removing the previous day.
Posting the video on California Eye Associates’ Instagram page, he wrote: “A rare occasion where someone ‘forgot’ to remove their contact lenses at night and kept putting on a new one every morning. 23 days in a row !!! to deliver the bunch of contact lenses yesterday in my clinic. “
Warning: The video shows the removal of multiple contact lenses from one eye.
The video shows a close-up of the patient’s eye and Dr. Kurteeva carefully scraping the lenses with a cotton swab.
Elaborating in a separate Instagram post, he wrote, “Over a million views, delighted to have the opportunity to educate the public on contact lens hygiene use.
“I carefully separated all the contact lenses and counted 23. I had to use a very fine surgical instrument, jeweler’s pliers, to separate the contact lenses.
“They were essentially glued together after sitting under the eyelid for a month.”
Talking with InsiderDr Kurteeva added: “In almost 20 years of practice, I had never seen anything like it. Not even the patient could believe it and asked me if I was sure of the number I was counting.”
He added that the patient was sent away with eye drops and felt “better already”.
