VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq beat XUV300, Nexon to become the safest cars in India: NCAP global crash test


Made in India and for India Volkswagen Taigun e Skoda Kushaq both achieved a 5-star rating based on the new updated Global NCAP crash test protocol. Both midsize SUVs are the first Indian-made vehicles to achieve a 5-star rating for both adult occupants and children.
The Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq SUVs were launched in India last year and are the first two Made in India SUVs from Skoda Auto Volkswagen India. Both of these SUVs are manufactured by the joint facility near Pune, Maharashtra.

The Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq are the first group of SUVs to be tested under the updated test protocol and received a 5-star rating, scoring 29.64 points in the adult occupant protection test out of up to 34 points. Interestingly, the SUVs also scored very well in the child occupant protection test, scoring 42 points.
The new protocol includes front and side impact protection assessment, ESC standards and pedestrian protection. Both SUVs tested had Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as a standard feature.
For the offset front barrier test, Global NCAP tests the car at a speed limit of 64 km / h, while the side barrier test is conducted at 50 km / h. The side impact test of the pole is performed at 29 km / h, while the child test with the pedestrian from head to bonnet is evaluated at 40 km / h.

Speaking of the VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq, it should be noted that both of these SUVs share the same MQB-A0-IN platform and are also the first cars under Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited’s (SAVWIPL) India 2.0 strategy.
Not only do Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq share the same MQB AO IN platform, but they also share the same TSI petrol engine. Both cars share the same engines, which is an option of two petrol engines: a 1.5-liter TSI unit and a 1.0-liter TSI turbo petrol engine. The 1.0-liter TSI engine delivers 115PS of power and 178Nm of torque, while the 1.5L TSI engine delivers 147PS of power and 250Nm of torque.
Both SUVs are equipped with safety features such as three-point seat belts with adjustable head restraints for all passengers, seat belt for the front seats, up to six airbags, rollover protection, ISOFIX for child restraint, Hill Hold Control, electronics Stability control with ABS and electronic brake force distribution as standard, tire pressure monitoring system, electronic differential lock system, multi-collision braking, brake disc wiping and rear parking sensor with camera and shock absorbing body components impact and side impact protection beam in the doors.
