Manchester United have been accused by the soccer association (FA) for failing to check their players in the goalless draw against Newcastle United at the weekend, the governing body announced on Tuesday.
Manchester United players surrounded by the referee Craig Pawson after disallowing a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese claiming Newcastle fired a free kick before running to take the ball from the goalkeeper Nick Pope and inserted it into an empty net.
“Manchester United FC have been charged with breaching FA rule E20.1 following their premier league match against Newcastle United FC on Sunday,” the FA said in a statement.
“Manchester United FC are alleged to have failed to ensure their players behaved in an orderly manner in the 49th minute of this match, and the club have until Thursday to respond.”
United, fifth in the Premier League table with 16 points from nine games, host third-placed Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
