WHO declares Covid-19 still a global health emergency


The World Health Organization said on Wednesday that Covid-19 remains a overall emergency, almost three years after it was first declared as such.
The WHO emergency committee made the first declaration for Covid-19 on January 30, 2020. Such determination can help accelerate research, funding and international public assistance health measures to contain a disease.

“Although the public perception is that the pandemic is over in some parts of the world, it remains a public health event that continues to negatively and strongly affect the health of the world’s population,” the WHO committee said. .
He noted that even though the number of weekly deaths is the lowest since the start of the pandemic, it still remains high compared to other viruses.
