Earthquake in Japan: Magnitude 6.1 quake hits central Japan, no tsunami warning | world news

TOKYO: A magnitude 6.1 earthquake was detected in the center Japan on Monday, rocking Tokyo and other cities, officials said, but no tsunami warning was issued.
The quake struck at 5:09 p.m. (0809 GMT) off central Mie Prefecture at a depth of about 350 kilometers (217 miles), the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
No damage or injury has been reported and no abnormalities have been detected in the Fukushima nuclear power plants, according to public broadcaster NHK.
The US Geological Survey also measured the quake at a magnitude of 6.1.
Fukushima and Ibaraki prefectures, north of Tokyo, suffered the strongest tremors on Japan’s seismic scale, despite the areas being hundreds of kilometers from the epicentre.
Shinkansen bullet trains and the Tokyo subway were briefly halted after the quake, but have since resumed.
