NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Sports endorsed indian wrestler Vinesh Phogattrains at high altitude under former Olympic silver medalist Serafim Barzakov in Belmeken, Bulgaria.
Phogat, three-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist, accompanied by her physio Ashwini Patiltrains at Belmeken, which is a high altitude training area located approximately 2600m above sea level.
The 19-day international camp, which began on November 7, is also expected to welcome other top wrestlers such as Bilyana Dudova (Gold medalist at the 2021 World Championships) and Evelina Nikolova (2020 Olympic bronze medalist).
The ministry said the Target Olympic Podium Program (TOPS) of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) “would cover, among others, flight, accommodation, local travel and catering expenses for Vinesh and his physio “.
“TOPS will also provide her with an allowance of $50 per day for any other expenses she may incur,” he said.
Under TOPS, the ministry will also financially support Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia to compete in the Bill Farrell International Wrestling Championship, to be held in New York from November 18-19.
“The competition would give Bajrang a chance to compete with some of the prominent and up-and-coming wrestlers in the United States, which was one of the top wrestling nations in men’s freestyle events at the recently concluded 2022 World Wrestling Championships. .”
