Russia is trying to exhaust Ukraine’s air defenses, Pentagon official says


WASHINGTON: The upsurge in Russian missile strikes in Ukraine is partly designed to deplete Ukraine’s air defense stockpiles, which Moscow hopes will allow its forces to dominate the skies over the country, a senior official said . Pentagon an official said Saturday.
“They are really trying to overwhelm and exhaust the Ukrainian air defense systems,” Colin KahlUndersecretary of Defense for Policy, told reporters while on a trip to the Middle East.
“We know the Russian Victory Theory, and we are committed to making sure it doesn’t work by ensuring the Ukrainians get what they need to keep their air defenses viable.”
