NEW DELHI: Top seed Unnati Hooda has qualified for the quarter-finals of the U-17 women’s singles of the Asian Badminton Junior Championships in Nonthaburi, Thailand on Thursday.
Unnati recorded an easy 21-11, 21-19 win over the 14th seed Nutchavee Sittiteeranan Thailand in the round of 16. In another Women’s U-17 game, India’s Anmol Kharb was shown out by Malaysia’s Dania Sofea 17-21 21-19 13-21.
In women’s doubles U-15, seeded Tanvi Reddy and Durga Esha Kandrapu got the better of the local pair of Sunisa Lekjula and Pimchanok Sutthiviriyakul 21-18 22-20 to enter the preliminary quarters.
In U-17 women’s doubles, fourth seed Navya Kanderi and Rakshitha Sree Santhosh Ramraj were knocked out in the round of 16 by the Japanese pair of Akari Kamio and Nayu Shirakawa 12-21 11-21.
There was another upset in the first round of women’s doubles as the unseeded Thai pair of Hathaithip Mijad and Huzwaney Momin shocked the second seed. Vennala Kalagotla and Shriyanshi Valishetty of India 21-16 21-15.
In U-17 men’s doubles Divyam Arora and India’s fifth seed Mayank Rana were upset by Indonesia’s Muhammad Baqir Al Hanif and Muhammad Rajendra Hugo Fausta 21-17 11-21 19-21.
Men’s doubles U-17 consisting of Arsh Mohammad and Sanskar Saraswatseeded sixth, fought his way to the pre-quarterfinals, beating Indonesia’s Daniswara Mahrizal and Yeremia Dwi Andre Mukuan and 21-12 21-10.
