LONDON: A police officer on duty in London has admitted carrying out a series of attacks on women, including 24 counts of rape, making him one of Britain’s most prolific sex offenders in a campaign that spanned more than 17 years. The Metropolitan Police apologized on Monday and said they should have spotted the pattern of abuse after David Carrick48, pleaded guilty to a total of 49 counts involving 12 victims, including 24 counts of grated between 2003 and 2020.
London’s Metropolitan Police, who have been placed in ‘special measures’ after being hit by a series of scandals last year, say Carrick abused his power as a police officer to control and intimidate his victims, telling them that no one would believe their word against that of a serving officer. “We have missed opportunities over time to identify a pattern of abusive behavior,” Assistant Commissioner Barbara Gray told Sky News. “We are very sorry that he continued to be a police officer.” Carrick, who joined the Met in 2001, isolated women socially, financially and held them against their will, controlling what they wore and when they slept.
