At least 16 people were killed in a fire at a fuel storage station in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta, CNN affiliate CNN Indonesia reported on Friday.
The station is operated by Pertamina, the Indonesian public power company.
Footage on social media showed a huge billowing flame and people running for cover.
Some nearby residents were evacuated and the Jakarta firefighting force dispatched 52 units to respond to the blaze.
Pertamina will investigate the cause of the fire and provide treatment to those affected, company CEO Nicke Widyawati told CNN Indonesia.
Fuel supply for Jakarta will be provided from other nearby terminals, Widyawati said.
In 2018, an oil spill caused by a leak from Pertamina’s underwater pipelines killed five fishermen.
Indonesian authorities at the time declared a state of “emergency response” to the massive scale of the spill and environmental damage off the coast of the Southeast Asian country.
